Farms
The MACD works to support, protect, and promote farmers and the larger agricultural economy.
Maine Districts partner with the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry and United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service to provide services to large-scale farms.
-
Districts help farmers adapt and try new practices through grant funds, cooperative equipment purchases, and demonstration sites.
Some examples include a cooperative soil steamer purchased to reduce weeds without using pesticides and cover crop demonstration fields.
-
-
State and Federal farm programs and funds often overlook the small-scale and subsistence farmers. Maine Districts help fill this gap through technical assistance, education, and funding.
Some examples include soil lead testing, YardScaping, and 100 Resilient Yards programs.
