Teams consist of 3-5 students that solve hands-on problems while competing on five topics:
Aquatics
Forestry
Soils

Annual natural resource issue
Maine has four regional competitions, where top winners go on to compete at the state competition. The winner of the Maine competition can compete at the international competition. Winners of the International Envirothon receive individual college scholarships. Through this program, students have an opportunity to meet and learn from state soil scientists, biologists, foresters, and other natural resource professionals.

A study packet is provided to all registered teams. Fall and Spring regional field day trainings are provided annually. Field days are open to all Maine high schools to help students learn about Maine natural resources through hands-on activities and presentations from field experts. These field days also serve as introductions to the Maine Envirothon competition if schools are interested.
Registration is $5 per student.
