Envirothon is a state and international environmental competition where high school students test their knowledge of natural resources and current environmental issues.

Teams consist of 3-5 students that solve hands-on problems while competing on five topics:

  • Aquatics

  • Forestry

  • Soils

  • Wildlife

  • Annual natural resource issue

Maine has four regional competitions, where top winners go on to compete at the state competition. The winner of the Maine competition can compete at the international competition. Winners of the International Envirothon receive individual college scholarships. Through this program, students have an opportunity to meet and learn from state soil scientists, biologists, foresters, and other natural resource professionals.
